Myself Nivin Antony from Ernakulam, Kerala. Here I am going to share my experience and thoughts of having new 1 Litre Polo TSI 2021.
Three weeks ago I bought a new car called Volkswagen Polo Highline Plus TSI Manual (Carbon Steel) from EVM Volkswagen Ernakulam, Kerala. In Ernakulam, On-Road price of this particular vehicle is 9.85L with accessories.
First of all, it's a value for money machine for car enthusiasts. It's a 1 Litre Turbocharged Petrol Engine which produces 110 ps power @ 5000 - 5500 rpm and 175 nm Torque @ 1750 - 4000 rpm with 6 speed manual transmission. Now my car has driven 2000 kilometers. I am getting roughly around 12 to 13 kmpl in City and 16 to 18 kmpl on Highways ( keeping under 3000 rpm). So I am quite happy with my mileage part (at least on Highways).
There are some things to consider before buying this beast especially Manual TSI variant. If you are buying a car which having Turbocharged Petrol Engine with Manual Transmission, you have to be aware of what I am going to tell. The torque band or the turbo opening will happen only from a specified certain rpm limit. In my case, 175 nm torque will start to happen only from 1750 rpm.
So before that rpm band, there's a ton amount of turbo lag which you guys will definitely feel in every gears. So practically speaking, if you are a kind of person which likes sudden pickup from the moment you give throttle, you have to keep the rpm band above 1750 always in every gears. Then only you will feel the kick or benefits of having a Turbo charged Petrol Engine. But If you are considering of buying any automatic variant of Polo which having Automatic Transmission gearbox (Comfortline TSI Automatic, Highline Plus TSI Automatic and GT TSI variant) you will be not feeling any kind of Turbo Lag or sudden pickup issues.
Because every procedures of shifting the gears and revving the engine will automatically done by simply applying accelerator pedal. Automatic transmission is way faster compared to manual transmission if you having Torque Converter or DSG/DCT gearbox.
Luckily Volkswagen provides Torque Converter for Polo 1 Litre GT TSI or any Automatic TSI variants. Since user will not feel any kind of Turbo Lag or sudden pickup issues. You just have to play with the accelerator pedal. That's all you need to do in a Turbocharged Petrol Engine which gives Automatic Transmission gearbox.
So overall riding experience from Polo GT TSI or any Automatic TSI variants will be way better and convenient than Polo TSI Manual variant for most common users. Obviously the mileage will be lesser than Manual variant (not drastically). So if you have any thoughts of buying a polo which having Turbocharged Petrol Engine, I suggest you to go for Automatic TSI variants. But If you are looking for a fun element part while driving and you can accept the facts of Turbo lag while opting manual TSI, then go for Polo Comfort Line or Highline Plus which having Turbocharged Petrol Engine or TSI Engine.
I hope you guys liked my honest review and opinion about VW Polo.
