Review Comments
Overall Ownership Experience
  • In 2016, I wanted to buy my first car — searching started with Alto and Kwid and ended with a Polo Highline petrol manual (Grey). I think that was my best decision.
  • I do not own a 2-wheeler in a city like Pune for the past 3 years.
  • You do not feel the need to upgrade to a sedan or SUV when you have a Polo. (I am certainly going to complete 15 years and then retire her to my farmhouse.)
  • You feel totally in control while driving on highways (I do not go beyond 80–85 kmph).
  • In city bumper-to-bumper traffic, you do feel the heavy clutch.
  • I go for a 6-hour highway ride every month and do not feel tired.
  • Overtaking on highways is smooth, except when there are more than 2 heavy vehicles to overtake.
  • Mileage: Highway – 17 kmpl; City – 12 kmpl; can go down to 8–9 kmpl at times.
  • Because of the Polo, for my next car I am very reluctant to go beyond VW, Škoda, or Honda.
  • Long story short: you are fortunate if you bought one when it was available.
  • It’s a shame no one offers entry-level cars like this anymore.
Service & Maintenance Experience
  • To be honest, as opposed to public sentiments, annual Polo service is not at all costly — it is around 7–8k a year.
  • Now they offer service packs, and because of that, my last servicing cost only 7 or 8k (don’t remember exactly).
  • I have always done servicing at authorised service centres. Sometimes it feels like they ask you for things that are not necessary, and then the cost shoots up.
  • (I do not want to take even a 0.1% safety risk, so guilty of agreeing to the service person at times.)
  • If you have to change some part, then it is very, very expensive — VW should certainly look into this.
Things You Like & Dislike
Things I Like
  • Build quality, handling, and reliability of the car.
  • Folding rear seat is a big positive for a hatchback.
  • Really good paint quality.
  • Superb build quality — it feels like you own a car, not just a metal box.
  • I feel some other brands’ higher segment cars lack this kind of build quality.
Things I Don’t Like
  • Rear seat space is very less. Cannot accommodate 5 people for a long drive.
  • Two 6-feet persons cannot sit in the front and back seat at the same time.
  • There is no rear A/C, which is a big negative.
