Upon Launch, New Vitara SUV Could Become Maruti’s Most Expensive Vehicle.

With the growing popularity of compact SUVs, Maruti and Toyota are now aggressively targeting this space. While Toyota has already introduced its version called the HyRyder, the Maruti version is set to debut on July 20, 2022.

The new compact SUV from Maruti could be called Vitara and may act as a replacement for the Grand Vitara sold internationally. The Vitara compact SUV will be sold through premium Maruti Nexa outlets.

While most of the Vitara's specs will be the same as the HyRyder, it will have its own unique profile on both the exterior and interior. The changes between the two SUVs will cover parts such as the front grille, headlights and DRLs, front and rear bumpers and rear tail lamps. While the equipment list will remain largely the same, the Maruti Vitara is likely to get a distinct interior color theme.

Key Features

Key features expected on the Maruti Vitara include a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, Arkamys sound system, 7-inch instrument cluster, leather-wrapped steering wheel and rear AC vents.

Other highlights include a panoramic sunroof, head-up display, wireless charger, steering wheel controls, cruise control, automatic climate control, PM 2.5 air filter, keyless entry, start/stop button and automatic ORVM folding. There will be a range of connectivity features such as remote functions, find my car, immobilizer and vehicle status reports. A number of voice commands can be performed using Siri or Google Assistant.

Safety & Rating

Maruti Vitara's advanced body structure ensures optimal safety in the event of an accident. The Vitara is expected to earn a 4 or 5 star safety rating in the NCAP global crash test. The safety kit on board the Maruti Vitara will include features like 6-airbags, 360-degree camera, parking camera and reversing sensors, vehicle stability control, hill-descent control, tire pressure monitoring system and side impact protection beam .

Price

All these features and cutting-edge technology are likely to make the new Vitara SUV much more expensive than Maruti's current lineup. Currently, the most expensive Maruti car in the range is the XL6, priced between Rs 11.29 lakh and Rs 14.55 lakh, ex-sh. The starting price of the upcoming Maruti Vitara is likely to be lower than the XL6, but the top end price is likely to be much higher. We expect the new Maruti Vitara SUV to be priced between Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 17.99 lakh, ex-sh.
