Overall Ownership Experience

I can't buy a petrol or diesel car after driving and owning this Nexon EV. The car is really good, and the best part is I can take it out whenever I want without worrying about fuel in the back of my mind. I don't hesitate to take a longer route, even if I have to, because of the low running cost. Many of my friends bought an EV after seeing mine.

The suspension, ride quality, and seat comfort are among the best things about this car. However, there are some issues:

  • There are many panel gaps.
  • The steering isn't calibrated well—if I keep it centered and drive straight, the car steers slightly to the left. We've gotten accustomed to it now.
  • Sometimes, I feel a vibration in the pedal for 2-3 seconds. This happens only once or twice every 3-4 months.

Apart from these issues, it's the best car!

Service & Maintenance Experience
Not at All Good
  • Basic cleaning issues – Even on the day of buying the car, it wasn't properly cleaned.
  • Unnecessary service frequency – Why does Tata want to service an EV every 6 months? There's hardly anything to do!
  • Billing tactics – The service center tries to inflate the bill every time, and as EV owners, we are often unsure about what is actually necessary and what is just a tactic.
  • EV service is NOT cheap  A big myth!
My Last Service (September)
  • Initial estimate: A long list of unnecessary charges.
  • Final bill: ₹2,124 for service + ₹531 for brake caliper pin greasing. Since it was brake-related, I didn’t want to take any chances, but I have no idea if the greasing was really necessary or why it costs ₹500.

Comparing to My Honda Jazz
  • I service my Jazz once a year without any hassle.
  • With the Nexon EV, I have to service it every 6 months, or they will void the warranty!
Things You Like & Dislike
Things I Like
  • Low running cost – Cheaper than even an Activa!
  • Suspension, ride quality, and seat comfort – Absolutely top-notch.
  • Freedom from fuel worries – Drive anywhere, anytime.
Things I Dislike
  • Panel gaps – Noticeable build quality issues.
  • Steering issue – Car veers left even when steering is centered.
  • Occasional pedal vibration – Happens once every few months.
  • High service costs for an EV – ₹8,000-9,000 per year, with mandatory servicing every 6 months.
Final Thoughts

Would I buy another petrol/diesel car after owning an EV?
Definitely not! The convenience and low running cost outweigh the downsides. However, Tata really needs to improve its service experience for EV owners.
