Six airbags rule extended to October 2023

The new regulation about mandatory 6 airbags was set to go into effect on October 1, 2022 but extended for 1 year to Oct 2023.

For one year, the Indian government has postponed its proposal to make six airbags mandatory for all M-1 category vehicles.

In January of this year, the government approved a draught notification making six airbags mandatory for M-1 category vehicles. The new regulation was set to go into effect on October 1, 2022.

Nitin Gadkari, the minister of road transport and highways, has stated that the new regulation will now take effect on October 1, 2023. He also stated that the decision to postpone the proposal's implementation was made due to the auto industry's global supply chain constraints.
