SIAM reports that automobile sales increased by double digits in April

Automobile sales in the local market increased by double digits last month, with most automakers increasing supplies to dealerships in response to sustained consumer demand.

Data released by SIAM

According to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), 331,278 passenger vehicles were dispatched from factories to dealerships in April, an increase of 12.9% from the 293,303 units sold in April 2022.

In the month under review, three-wheeler sales more than doubled to 42,885 units. In April, two-wheeler sales increased by 15.1% to 1,338,588 units. While scooter sales increased by 19.6% to 464,389 units last month, motorcycle sales increased by 14% to 839,274 units during the same period.

Statement by SIAM President

"All the segments, viz. passenger cars, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers, reported an increase in April 2023 as when compared to the same month in 2022, which clearly suggests that Industry has been able to adjust very smoothly to BS 6 Phase 2 Emission Norms from April 1, 2023," said Vinod Aggarwal, President, SIAM.

According to Aggarwal, as the country enters the monsoon season, good rainfall, among other things, can help the automobile sector maintain its growth momentum in the future.

Statement by Director General of SIAM

According to Rajesh Menon, Director General of SIAM, "April 2023 passenger vehicle sales were the highest ever in April, returning a 12.9% increase over April 2022." In April 2023, two-wheelers increased by 15.1% over the previous year.
