Mahindra XUV700 variants redesigned: Many features removed, some added too

Soon after the Scorpio-N SUV launched, Mahindra decided to redesign variants of the best-selling XUV700.

The Mahindra XUV700 sacrifices some features while adding others. MX, AX3, AX5, AX7, and AX7 L are among the variants affected by the change. In this variant rejig, there are more deletions than additions. Let's start with the deletions.

Deleted Features from XUV 700

The MX variant loses Rear Parking Sensors, Height Adjustable Driver Seat, Rear Spoiler, and Follow-Me-Home Headlamps, while the AX3 variant loses Rear Wiper & Defogger and Selective Unlock (doors & boot lid). The LED sequential turn indicators are no longer available on the AX5 and AX7 trims, and the top-of-the-line AX7 L manual gearbox variants are no longer available.

New Features added to XUV700

In terms of new features, the AX7 gains cruise control, while the AX7 L variants gain LED sequential turn indicators. Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go functions is available on the AX7 L automatic trims. Mahindra has 1.5 lakh bookings for the XUV700, which will be released in August 2021. While the automaker has delivered approximately 50,000 units, over 1 lakh bookings remain on hold. Certain variants have waiting lists of nearly two years.

The XUV700 is Mahindra's flagship model, with prices starting at Rs. 13.18 lakh for the base trim and rising to Rs. 24.58 lakh for the top-end variants. The SUV has a monocoque body and is front wheel drive in the majority of variants. On the top-tier trims, only the diesel trims offer all-wheel drive. There are two engines available: a 2 litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2 litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. Both engines are available with 6-speed manual or torque converter automatic transmissions.

The 197 Bhp-380 Nm petrol engine is known for its quiet operation and punchy power delivery. The diesel engine is also very refined, with good fuel efficiency and punchy performance. The diesel engine in the XUV700 is a mainstay of multiple Mahindra SUVs, with 155 Bhp-360 Nm on the base manual trims, 182 Bhp-420 Nm on higher manual trims, and 182 Bhp-450 Nm on the top-end automatic trims.

Following a crash test, the Global NCAP awarded the Mahindra XUV700 a full 5 star rating, making it one of the safest mass-market SUVs sold in India. The XUV700's sturdy bodyshell and safety features such as 7 airbags, ESP, ABS, traction control, hill hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring, 360 degree parking camera, and blind spot monitoring are key to its excellent performance in the crash safety test. The XUV700 also came standard with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), which included adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking.
