Overall Ownership Experience

This was my first car, and the experience has been very emotional and special.

I had initially shortlisted the Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, and Hyundai i20, with a budget of ₹11L on-road.

  • Tata Nexon was ruled out due to a poor sales experience.
  • Kia Sonet was tempting, but the lackluster engine made me reconsider.
Discovery & Purchase

When the Mahindra XUV 3X0 was announced, I immediately took a test drive with my dad and loved the engine performance.

After reviewing the available variants, I chose the MX3 variant to get OEM Android Auto. Car was delivered in June 2024, and since then, the experience has been great overall.

Minor Issues

Infotainment restarts randomly when Android Auto is connected.

  • It usually fixes itself within a minute.
  • Reported to the service center — multiple software updates have reduced the frequency of the issue, though it still happens once a month.
Driving Experience
  • Punchy engine – overtakes are effortless.
  • Been using XP95 petrol, despite it being MPFI, as Mahindra recommends 95 octane.
  • Highway mileage: 15+ km/l when cruising under 100 km/h.
  • City mileage (Bangalore traffic): Drops to 9–10 km/l.
  • Noticed a creaking noise at the rear when engaging the parking brake with people entering the car — fixed during first service.

Planning to keep the car for several more years.

Service & Maintenance Experience
Service Center: SKS Mahindra, Salem, Tamil Nadu

Total Visits: 5

  • 3 for scheduled service
  • 2 for software updates
Feedback
  • Excellent experience overall for cars under warranty.
  • Only downside: The service center is always crowded.
  • Noticed that out-of-warranty vehicles sometimes face less priority, which is concerning.
Things You Like & Dislike
What I Love
  • Strong engine and excellent torque delivery
  • Effortless acceleration: Pulls from 40 to 140 km/h with ease
  • Beginner-friendly manual transmission
  • Low maintenance so far
  • Respectable mileage for its segment
What I Don’t Like
  • Steering wheel is too large, seemingly borrowed from Mahindra’s larger cars
  • Steering feel is too light and disconnected at low speeds
  • Rear seat comfort is poor – lacks thigh support; tall passengers struggle on long drives
  • Brakes feel spongy after 15,000+ km — planning to address this at the 20,000 km service
