Overall Ownership Experience

After driving nearly 10,000 km, the overall experience has been good.

  • The car performs well on highways, gives consistently good mileage, and looks stylish for its segment.
  • It handles confidently, especially during long drives between Bengaluru and my hometown.
  • Minor drawbacks include slightly stiff suspension on bad city roads and average headlight visibility at night, but nothing that affects daily usability.
  • Kia’s service experience has been positive so far – they responded well when there was an issue caused by a service helper and resolved it without delay.

For my needs and the budget I had, the Sonet feels like a sensible and satisfying choice.

Service & Maintenance Experience

So far, my experience with Kia’s service has been smooth.

  • The first service went without any issues, and the second one is due soon.
  • During one visit, a scratch appeared on the tail lamp and bumper, likely due to a helper’s carelessness.
  • While this shouldn’t have happened, the dealership acknowledged it and replaced the parts quickly, which I appreciated.
Things You Like & Dislike
Things I Like
  • The diesel engine is smooth and performs really well, especially on highways.
  • Consistently great mileage: ~23 km/l on highways and 13–15 km/l in the city.
  • Steering and handling feel better than Nexon, Altroz, and Grand Vitara (based on test drives).
  • Auto climate control AC works efficiently and keeps the cabin comfortable even on long drives.
  • Personally find the design one of the best in this segment – compact, sharp, and stands out on the road.
  • Kia’s service team has been responsive and handled issues well.
Things I Don’t Like
  • Suspension feels a bit stiff, especially on broken or uneven city roads.
  • Headlight brightness at night isn’t great – okay in city limits, but not very confidence-inspiring on highways.
  • Rear seat space is average. It hasn’t affected me since I don’t use it much, but it might matter to others.
  • During a service visit, a scratch was caused by a helper. While the parts were replaced quickly, it shouldn’t have happened in the first place.
