Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest carmaker, reported a decline in domestic wholesales for the month. Mini car sales (Alto and S-Presso) decreased to 9,765 units from 16,320 units the previous year.
Similarly, compact car sales (Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S, and WagonR) were down at 57,502 units in December 2021, compared to 69,345 units in December 2021.

"The shortage of electronic components seemed to have some impact on the production of automobiles, especially in domestic models. "The Company took all reasonable steps to mitigate the damage," the automaker said in a statement.
However, its utility vehicles such as the Brezza, Ertiga, S-Cross, XL6 and Grand Vitara sold 33,008 units this month, up from 26,982 units the previous year.
Creta's manufacturer also declared its highest-ever sales for the calendar year 2022. It maintained its second-place ranking for the entire year, leapfrogging Tata Motors by a wide margin. However, Tata emerged as the second largest automaker in December.
